Boilers with output capacities of 100,000 British Thermal Units (BTUs) per hour and greater require inspection. Additionally, unfired pressure vessels greater than 5 cubic feet (cu.ft.) and/or pressures greater than 15 pounds per square inch (psi) require inspection. Examples of vessels that are inspected include hydronic hot water heating-steam boilers (high pressure) used in prisons, hospitals, and dry cleaners; hot water supply (low pressure) used in restaurants and laundry mats; and air compressors (unfired pressure vessels) used in automotive shops.
